Burgundy is having a moment, evidenced by the influx of Black women rocking the smokey red hue. The rich shade fuses hints of red and purple that create a color fit for royalty. Representing luxury, wealth, and class, burgundy is one of the most opulent crayons in the Crayola box.
Luxury designers like Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Miu Miu forecasted the grandiose color in their 2025 Spring/Summer collections, but we’ve been seeing burgundy make its rounds since the fall. Gucci’s 2025 Spring/Summer collection is overwhelmed with monochrome pieces that highlight the power and solidity of the color. Because red symbolizes strength, when it is morphed into its sister shade, burgundy, we witness the rich resilience of the hue in all its glory.

Black women have dominated the shade, from red carpet frocks to wine-red tresses, solidifying its lavish allure on the color wheel.
La La Anthony gave the girls the ultimate hair inspo when she popped out with a head full of burgundy tresses.
Cardi B took it a step further with a full-on monochrome look from the crown of her head to the tip of her toes. The award-winning rapper and fashion guru stepped out for a NY Knicks game clad in a burgundy LaQuan Smith ensemble, with the hair to match.
Beyonce also served up a chic monochrome fit that she sported on her Instagram page. After taking the stage at former Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign rally, Queen Bey changed into a maroon Gabriela Hearst suit styled with matching leather gloves.
These examples easily prove Black women’s strong affinity to the color burgundy. But if you need more proof, see 33 additional photos of our faves rocking the royal hue.
