Cynthia Erivo’s spell-bounding performance in Wicked has earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. And we couldn’t be happier and prouder of the talented beauty. Erivo is finally getting the praise she deserves after earning her stripes on the stages on Broadway before landing her biggest role as Elphaba. Ariana Grande was nominated for her portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch. Wicked scored 10 nominations.

Erivo is one of the few melanated faces that garnered nods. Zoe Saldana landed her first Oscar nomination, for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in the critically acclaimed film Emilia Pérez. The Spanish language, French-made film, directed by Jacques Audiard, landed 13 nods, including best picture and best actress nod for Karla Sofía Gascón. Gascón’s nomination made her the first openly trans actor ever nominated. Colman Domingo snagged a nom for Best Actor for Sing, Sing. 

Erivo took to social media to express her gratitude to The Academy for the acting honor. “Moments like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, it is sacrilege to let them pass by without a moment of gratitude,” she wrote. “I am grateful, grateful to @theacademy, grateful to be a part of something that makes people feel seen, grateful to be a cog in the wheel of a piece that makes us believe in magic, grateful to have experienced a dream come true, and deeply deeply grateful for this unbelievable recognition”

2025 Oscar Nominations Are In

The 2025 Oscar nominations were announced, Thursday morning, after being delayed out of respect for the devastating California wildfires. Hosted by, Conan O’Brien for the first time, the ceremony airs Sunday, March 2, 2025.

fans have taken tot social media to react to nominations, including some snubs. Selena Gomez, Jamie Lee Curtis and Demi Moore are among the names of award-season contenders who didn’t receive a nom.
