Rihanna’s “Only Girl” Video Director Lashes Out At Her Fans
When it was announced that Rihanna had chosen Anthony Mandler to direct her latest music video “Only Girl,” her fans far and wide expressed their disapproval.
Even though Mandler has directed 13 of Rihanna’s videos since 2006, her fans were expecting something colorful and vibrant for the “Only Girl” visual and Mandler is known for using “darker” imagery.
He has directed “Te Amo,” “Wait Your Turn,” “Russian Roulette,” “Rehab,” “Live Your Life” with T.I., “If I Never See Your Face Again” with Maroon 5, “Disturbia,” “Take A Bow,” “Hate That I Love You” with Ne-Yo, “Shut Up And Drive,” “We Ride” and “Unfaithful.”
It seems to us that his vision is completely appropriate; after all, he was directing the music videos for her more heartbreaking ballads and for the singles from her “Rated R” album (which we all know was her most emotional to date).
Unlike her fans, we won’t judge him until we see the final product.
Here’s what Mandler himself had to say:
