Popular influencer and model Nara Smith is known for being candid with her millions of loyal followers, but she recently shared a more personal look into her life with a video that showed her hair journey as someone dealing with eczema.

In the video, Smith shares in a voiceover while she sits and gets curly extensions installed, that the effects of eczema have resulted in her hair falling out, a bleeding, flaky scalp and the ultimate decision to cut all of her hair off and start again in the hopes that her natural curls will return.

At the end of the video, she showed her husband’s reaction, top male model Lucky Blue Smith, as he caressed her face and marveled at her new hairstyles of big, bountiful curls.

She also included photos of her skin during eczema flare-ups and offered a message to those who leave her hateful comments on social media regarding her appearance.

”So for anyone sending me hateful messages for choices I make on how I choose to wear my hair—stop making assumptions that are so outrageous when you have absolutely no idea what someone else is going through,” Smith wrote.

Earlier this month, Smith teamed up with Cetaphil to advocate for eczema awareness, according to HypeBae. The joint campaign, called “From Scratch to Smooth,” seeks to raise awareness, with Smith discussing her personal journey, testing various nutritional paths and using calming products such as “Restoraderm” Rapid Relief Cream.

Additionally, alongside dermatologist Dr. Camille Howard, Smith will create educational content and provide insights to curb the stigma of eczema and address common myths of the condition.

Following the announcement of the campaign, Smith said that she hopes to further connect “with the eczema community” via conversations and experiences. “The heart of this campaign is connection,” Smith said, “so it’ll go beyond just what’s on screen.”
