Celebrity Hairstylist Dee Michelle Talks Invisible K-Tips Method
Celebrity Hairstylist Dee Michelle Dishes On Her Invisible K-Tip Method And Maintaining Hair Health

Let’s be honest: beauty mavens have treaded lightly with K-Tip extensions. The popular install, which consists of attaching individual strands to your natural hair with a keratin adhesive, has received mixed reviews. Unfortunately, some stylists lack proper training, so hair issues, including tension, breakage, tangling, and knotting have become a reality.
Dee Michelle, a celebrity hairstylist and entrepreneur, immediately realized the disconnect and took action. The 20-year veteran created her coveted invisible K-Tip method to help clients achieve their dream install. As a longtime hairstylist, Dee understands the responsibility of building trust and instilling confidence in the manes she’s blessed. With a celebrity client list that includes Keyshia Cole, Lira Galore, Jayda Cheaves, and more, it’s clear that her talent and expertise are unmatched.
In an exclusive chat with HelloBeautiful, Dee Michelle speaks candidly on falling in love with hair, her invisible K-Tip technique, proper aftercare tips, and more.
Dee Michelle On Falling in Love With Hairstyling and Her Invisible K-Tip Method
HelloBeautiful: How did your love affair with hairstyling begin?
Dee Michelle: My journey in the hair industry began at an early age, deeply influenced by my mother’s passion for haircare and beauty. Watching her maintain and style her hair, I developed a profound admiration for how a great hairstyle could transform the way a person felt about themselves. My mother’s love for beauty and self-care was not just about appearances; it was about the confidence and joy it brought.
When my mom became ill, I found myself learning how to care for both my own hair and hers. During this challenging time, my appreciation for the art of hairstyling grew into a deep passion. Through styling her hair, I realized that it wasn’t just about creating beautiful looks—it was about the connection and confidence a great hairstyle could provide. That is when my journey to become a stylist truly began.

HB: What is the goal of your Invisible K-Tip method?
DM: My goal with the Invisible K-Tip method was to address hair health concerns and show women that this style does not have to come with the risk of damage. The gentle technique focuses on proper weight distribution to reduce tension and breakage. I also use high-quality keratin bonds that further minimize stress on the natural hair. The main priority is ensuring the hair remains healthy while achieving a beautiful, long-lasting look. With my method, I aim to erase any stigma surrounding K-Tips and demonstrate that when done correctly, they can be both safe and stunning.
HB: What have you learned from teaching stylists your K-Tip technique?
DM: I’ve learned so much as a businesswoman and a stylist. On the business side, I’ve discovered the importance of having strong business structures and maintaining a solid business model. This includes everything from client communication and payment processing, to how I present and distribute information about my classes. As a stylist, I’ve seen the eagerness of aspiring stylists to perfect their skills, which has really reinforced the value of mentorship. Empowering women through education is incredibly rewarding. Many of the women who attend my classes are not only becoming top stylists, but they’re also mastering the K-Tip method and becoming experts in applying it accurately and effectively.
The Importance of Research and Aftercare Tips
HB: What steps should clients take before getting a K-tip install?
DM: My advice for beauty mavens interested in K-Tip extensions is simple: research is key. It’s essential to find a stylist who is experienced in properly applying K-Tips and prioritizes the health of your natural hair. If K-Tips aren’t applied correctly, they can cause damage. So it’s important to choose a professional who specializes in this method.
Part of the salon experience is doing your homework. Find a stylist who successfully applies the K-Tips and educates you on maintaining your hair health. A great stylist will ensure you get the best results while keeping your hair healthy and strong.
HB: What aftercare tips should beauty mavens follow for a long-lasting install?
DM: Use a silk or satin bonnet or pillowcase while sleeping to protect your hair and prevent friction. This helps maintain the integrity of the K-Tips. Avoid using heavy oils or thick products near the bonds, as they can cause slippage. It’s also important to wash your hair regularly—at least 1-2 times a week—to keep it clean and healthy. When brushing or detangling, always be gentle to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the bonds and your natural hair.
