The 2020 Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday night and officially kicked off award season. Personally, I love award season as it allows me to get hair and makeup inspo for the entire year! As I watched all the stars walk the red carpet, my eyes zoomed in on Kat Graham. The beauty had on a bold red dress and a red lip and her eyes were these smokey purple. It was refreshing and different. I wouldn’t have paired purple and red together.

It should be no surprise that her makeup was done by none other than Sir John, celebrity makeup artist, who is best known for doing BeyoncĂ©’s makeup. Sir John shared the inspiration for her 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards look, “Kat is wearing a beautiful red dress tonight, and I wanted her makeup to compliment the gown. We focused on dark eyes and a bold, red lip for a chic look.”
Beauties, do you want to know how to recreate this look exactly like Sir John did on Kat Graham? Keep clicking to find out!
PREP THE SKIN
If you are about to do a full glam beat, you should have a clean face. Wash your face in the morning using AHC Aqualuronic Facial Cleanser ($19.99, target.com). This facial cleanser is moisturizing, hydrating, and will get your face clean. Before applying your makeup, you can clean your face with a toner or micellar water to make sure you have a clean palette. Sir John prepped Graham’s skin using L’Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water ($9.99, lorealparisusa.com). We also love Urban Hydration’s Moisture Boost Kiwi & Pomegranate Micellar Cleansing Water ($9.99, urbanhydration.com). Each time you buy a product from Urban Hydration, they donate a gallon of water to a well in Kenya.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EYES
Eyes were a big focus for Sir John. He suggested to use an eyeliner, “such as Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in Amethyst ($27.00, ulta.com), all over the lid as an eyeshadow base for ultimate color payoff that lasts all night.” Such a great trick! To finish Graham’s bold eyes, Sir John applied L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara ($9.99, target.com). He shared a pro tip for the eyes: “To avoid mascara smudges, place your thumb at the root of your upper lash line and gently lift the eyelid while applying mascara. Your thumb acts as a barrier between your eyelid and lashes so you can add tons of volume without messing up your eyeshadow.”
FACE TIME

Sir John used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation ($14.99, ulta.com) and L’Oreal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer ($13.49, ulta.com) for the base. While this is affordable, if you are looking for an even more affordable foundation, opt for Black Radiance Color Perfect Liquid Makeup ($5.49, blackradiancebeauty.com).
SET IT IN PLACE
To set everything in place, he used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder ($9.99, lorealparisusa.com). If you want to use something a little more expensive, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder ($39.99, ulta.com) is a tried and true industry favorite, they also have it in deep for those of us with deeper melanin.
LIP SERVICE
It’s all about the lips! For her perfect red pout, Sir John applied L’Oreal Paris Rouge Signature Lightweight Matte Colored Ink in ‘I Don’t’ ($9.99, lorealparisusa.com). With red lipstick, it’s almost always prone to feathering. Use a lip liner to help it from transferring off your lips and onto your face or smudging unnecessarily. Sir John used on Graham, L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner in ‘In-Matte-Uated With You’ ($8.99, lorealparisusa.com).
