GET THE LOOK: Pose Star Angelica Ross’ Effortless Ponytail Can Be Yours In 5 Easy Steps

If you are a Pose FX fan like me, I’m sure you were looking all over the 2019 Emmy Awards red carpet to see which of the cast members would show up. While we got daring looks from Billy Porter and Indya Moore looked like a dream, we loved this effortless high ponytail that actress and activist Angelica Ross was sporting!

Her hairstyle was completed by celebrity hairstylist Cesar Ramirez who commented, “Angelica Ross is not only a good friend, but also a brilliant actress.” We agree! He added, “I jumped at the opportunity to work with her for this year’s Emmy Red Carpet look.”

Ross wore a custom Michael Costello gown that Ramirez stated, “was absolutely stunning with all of it’s intricate 3D flowers.” Her dress was meant to be the standout so Ramirez wanted “to keep her hair young, effortless and off the shoulders to show off the full details of the gown.”

Ponytails were trending at NYFW and have been a staple on the red carpet for a few seasons now. Cesar Ramirez gave us the step by step details on how to achieve this look at home!

Protect your tresses.

If you’re going to be applying heat to your hair, you’ll definitely want to use a heat protectant! Ramirez started by separating Ross’ clean damp hair into small sections and spraying Dove Style + Care Smooth & Shine Heat Protection Spray ($4.88, walmart.com). He shared with Hello Beautiful, “I always start with a heat protector before any style to keep my clients hair healthy and strong. Not only does this spray protect, but it also gives the hair amazing shine.”

Blow dry.

Afterwards, he used the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Blowdryer ($146.48, amazon.com) and Ceramics Round Brush to blow dry Ross’ hair in small sections. By utilizing small sections, the hair had a smooth finish with lots of volume.

Add some length!

After the hair is completely blow dried, Ramirez add hair pieces for length! He used his WILDFORM hair extension line in caramel tones. By mixing the hair color, it adds dimension to Ross’ hair.

Wavy.

After adding the hair, he created “big bouncy waves” using the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Flatiorn as well as Dove Style And Care Compressed Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray ($4.89, target.com). This helped for a “sexy face frame” according to Ramirez.

Make it messy.

To finish the look Ramirez “pulled everything into a messy high ponytail and et each wave with hairspray.” He loves the Dove Style And Care Compressed Micro Mist Extra Hold Hairspray because “its micro-mist technology allows me to apply a lot of the spray, while still keeping the hair touchable and soft.” Good to know!
