Chromat Spring/Summer 2020 New York Fashion Week Runway Show

Chromat is one of the top shows I look out for every season. Becca McCharen always has an inclusive runway (that goes beyond size and color) and serves us edgy looks that we can’t wait to recreate for a big event like a birthday or a see and be scene party.

While the fashion was top notch this season, it was all about the hair! TRESemmé NYFW Stylist, Justine Marjan created a bubble ponytail for several of the models to strut down the runway. Gilbert explained that “this look is for a sporty, fun, confident woman who isn’t afraid to play with her style and express her creative flare.”

We loved this bubble ponytail and know we will be seeing it more for both Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. Keep reading on how to DIY this look in eight easy steps!

For natural girls who are in need of a wash day, you can still get away with this look. The fact that your hair is a little dirty, will allow it to be even more moldable. Start by gathering a triangular section of hair at the front of the hairline. Your going to want it to stay so spray TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hair spray Hold Level 4: Extend ($4.99, target.com) at the roots to create a strong foundation.

Step 2:

Brush the section into a ponytail using a toothbrush. I prefer to use Baby Tress Edge Styler ($15.00, babytress.com), this product is great for molding your edges as well.

Step 3:

You are going to want to tease the roots of the mini ponytail for volume. If you have Type 3 hair and need a little more help vs our Type 4 sistahs, try TRESemmé Between Washes Volumizing Dry Shampoo ($5.99, ulta.com). Massage throughout to get instant volume and brush over it to create a bubble-like shape.

Step 4:

Clip the section away and create another triangular pony beneath the first and secure with an elastic band. If you want a long and dramatic ponytail and don’t have the hair to do it, you can purchase some affordable synthetic hair and add to each section.

Step 5:

On the last loop of the elastic while securing add the above bubbly pony to the pony that you are woking on and secure with another elastic.

Step 6:

You are going to repeat steps 4 and 5 for the length of the hair (or however long you want the extensions to be).

You can duplicate on the other side if you want to bubble ponytails, but I like centered option for one, large bubble pony.

Step 7:

If your bubbles aren’t to your liking, use French pins and bobby pin to shape the bubbles throughout.

Step 8:

It’s all about your edges! You’re going to want to smooth them down with your favorite edge gel. I love African Pride Black Castor Miracle Extra Hold Braid, Loc, Twist Gel ($6.85, amazon.com) for it’s longstanding hold!
