The stars decided tonight was the night to shine. There was an overwhelming number of ladies who hit the carpet in sequin dresses. Normani showed up in a rainbow-colored sequin dress with a high-slit and cut outs at the torso. Lizzo made a statement in a bold red sequin Moschino Resort 2020 gown. Self proclaimed “Hot Girl” Meg thee Stallion added some sparkle to the red carpet as well. The college student and chart-topping rapper wore a black jeweled blazer, with matching shorts and thigh-high boots. The list goes on. Although the sparkle look was big, each starlet made sure to bring their own feel to it.

The color was turned up a notch on the red carpet. While you had your black ensembles, a majority of people decided to soak up what’s left of the summer by throwing on their power color. Terrence J wore a vibrant teal suit, while Queen Latifah kept it simple in a lively orange pants suit with a fringed hem.

Model Ebonee Davis gave off island vibes in a green, yellow, and white tie-dye slip dress, with a lime green head wrap. The color is subtle, yet bold. She gave a modern spin on a 1990’s look.

A fun print or pattern can really elevate an outfit. I mean, look at the way Monica killed this loud Libertine dress? What I loved about this red carpet trend is that most of the looks were over the top.

H.E.R. wore a floral pattern jumpsuit with waist-length braids, her signature specs, and a snake! What a way to accessorize. And if you’re wondering, yes, the snake is real!

When in doubt, a classic animal print will do the trick. Pepa gave us a retro look with an animal print blazer, black shorts, lace stockings, and a short black bob.

Every now and then you’ll see a star step out in head to toe signature logos. Some people opt for a subtle look that doesn’t have the designer logo all over their outfits while others say go bold or go home. Meg thee Stallion hit the stage of the VMA’s pre-show in a Louis Vuitton body suit and a matching military jacket.

If you want to make a statement, throw some feathers on your outfit. Sometimes you can walk the fine line of looking like big bird, or you can pull off a high-fashion look by not going overboard. Lil Kim erred on the extreme side clad in a purple, single-shoulder feather top, black shorts, and knee-high jeweled shoes.
