Republicans React To Obama’s Speech On Terrorism

Sunday, December 6th, 2015, President Obama made a rare statement to the nation regarding terrorism. In the third address of his presidency from the Oval Office, Obama speech was less informative but more encouraging. “The threat from terrorism is real, but we will overcome it,” he said.

President Obama was unable to offer new information on the shooting in San Bernardino. “So far, we have no evidence that the killers were directed by a terrorist organization overseas or that they were part of a broader conspiracy here at home.”

Obama said it “should be more difficult” to buy assault-style rifles similar to the ones used in San Bernardino. He also added that people on no-fly lists shouldn’t be allowed to buy guns.

His remarks weren’t substantial enough for the Republican presidential candidates who immediately took to social media to share what they would be doing to thwart terrorism if they were president.

In a series of tweets, Donald Trump said, “Is that all there is? We need a new President – FAST!”

“Wish Obama would say ISIS, like almost everyone else, rather than ISIL…Well, Obama refused to say (he just can’t say it), that we are at WAR with RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISTS,” added Trump.

Jeb Bush weighed in via his Facebook page, saying, “We need to remove the self-imposed constraints President Obama has placed on our intelligence community and military, and we need to put in place an aggressive strategy to defeat ISIS and radical Islamic terrorism as I have proposed.”

He also said, “Unfortunately, neither he nor Hillary Clinton has the resolve to put in place such a strategy.”

In an interview on Fox News, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio basically called Obama’s speech pointless, “Nothing we heard in that speech tonight will assuage people’s fears.”

Echoing similar sentiments was Ohio Gov. John Kasich, “The President’s strategy is not enough. Without taking the fight to ISIS on the ground, ISIS won’t be defeated,” he said in a statement. “Since February I’ve been calling for a coalition to do that. We must stop delaying and do it.”

Rand Paul briefly said, “We must stop arming and training the allies of ISIS and al Qaeda.”

Ben Carson reaction to the President’s briefing on San Bernardino are as follows: “Strange that it took four days from the attack to respond and even more strange that somehow the attack on our soil is proof his policies are working. One must wonder who has contained who.”
