Activists Commemorate Emmett Till’s Life 60 Years After His Brutal Murder
Even decades later, Emmett Till’s brutal death at the hands of racists in Mississippi is as relevant as ever in today’s Black Lives Matter movement. The mother of Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, and the father of Michael Brown, Michael Brown, Sr., will be attending a memorial dinner today for Till in Chicago. There will also be gatherings today at the church where Till’s funeral service was held and the cemetery where Till and his mother, Mamie Till Mobley, are buried. Finally, there will be various other memorial events and movie screenings to commemorate Till’s life through Sunday. Organizers say the events are especially important in serving as opportunities to educate local teens on the history of racism and violence projected at America’s Black youth. Europe Faces Immigration Crisis As Scores Of Migrants Die Before Reaching Their Destination

Investigators in the bizarre, tragic deaths of migrants discovered in an abandoned truck left on the side of a highway between Vienna and Budapest have risen the death toll from 50 to 70. Simultaneously, rescue workers have been pulling corpses of migrants in the coastal waters of Libya after smugglers’ boats capsized; it’s estimated that 200 drowned. The two events shockingly occurred within a brief, 24-hour time span—a series of events that are highly indicative of the growing and increasingly deadly migration trends of people escaping conflict-ridden areas in the Middle East and Africa. European officials are trying to find tangible solutions to the issues presented by the immigration surge it has been experiencing, but there’s disagreement over how many immigrants European countries should allow past their borders and how much accountability European countries should have in migrants’ deaths. George Zimmerman Calls The President An ‘Ignorant Baboon’ And We Want To Know Why He’s Still A Free Man

So George Zimmerman decided to grace us all with his backwards-ass commentary on the horrible shooting that left two reporters in Virginia dead at the hands of an eccentric, volatile Black colleague. Zimmerman, whose profile photo on Twitter features a Confederate flag, tweeted that the shooter, Vester Lee Flanagan, was too much of a “daisy” to really address racism and that President Barack Obama was too much of an “Ignorant Baboon” to say or do anything about the incident. Zimmerman was even disrespectful enough to say that if Obama had a son, he would resemble the assailant.
I’m at a loss for words. I take it Zimmerman missed Obama’s comments about the matter during an interview on Wednesday, or that security experts are now saying that the shooting may not have actually been a hate crime against White people. No matter what, I don’t think there’s any reasoning with someone as bigoted and small-minded. Read more at The Root.
