They say death happens in threes. This month we’ve lost Percy Sledge, Johnny Kemp and now Ben Powers.
The Hollywood Reporter and an obituary by the Auclair Funeral Home in Fall River, Massachusetts announced the death of actor Alton “Ben” Powers. No cause of death was given. Powers largest acting role was “Keith Anderson” on the hit CBS show, “Good Times.” The “Keith Anderson” character was married to Thelma, who was played by actress Bern Nadette Stanis.
Powers joined the cast of “Good Times” during the show’s sixth and final season, when the character of Keith was introduced as a former football player and Thelma’s love interest. After Keith and Thelma wed during the season’s third episode, the character Keith was used to explore taboo issues in the minority communities such as depression and alcoholism.
After “Good Times,” Powers took on roles in “Laverne & Shirley,” “The Man Who Loved Women,” and “Gimmie A Break!”
Powers is survived by his mother, two sisters and other relatives.
