Want to pledge a Panhellenic sorority at the University of Alabama? Are you Black? Well…you can’t. The sorority advisers and alumnae recently stopped a couple of Black students who were pledging Alpha Gamma Delta during recruitment week. Members of the sorority were told they couldn’t vote for the new members because the chapter had already made the cut. The girls protested, but despite the recruit having an amazing 4.3 GPA, being the salutatorian of her graduating class and coming from a family with deep roots in local and state public service and a direct link to The University of Alabama, she wasn’t considered to join because she is Black.
One of the current members, Melanie Gotz asked, “Are we really not going to talk about the black girl?” The Crimson White is reporting, “Fifty years after Vivian Malone and James Hood became the first black students to desegregate The University of Alabama, there remains one last bastion of segregation on campus: The UA greek system is still almost completely divided along racial lines.”
“People are too scared of what the repercussions are of maybe taking a black girl,” Gotz said. “That’s stupid, but who’s going to be the one to make that jump? How much longer is it going to take till we have a black girl in a sorority? It’s been years, and it hasn’t happened.”
It’s 2013! Why are we still defined by color lines? Check out the full story here.
Up Next: Hugo Boss’ Nazi Uniforms
Recently at the GQ Man Of The Year Awards, actor, Russell Brand was kicked out for claiming Hugo Boss, the event’s sponsor, made Nazi uniforms! Brand hit the stage and stated, “If anyone knows a bit about history and fashion, you know it was Hugo Boss who made uniforms for the Nazis. But they looked fucking fantastic, let’s face it, while they were killing people on the basis of their religion and sexuality.”
After being kicked out by GQ editor, Dylan Jones, Russell didn’t let his anger stop there. It’s being reported that the comedian hopped on Twitter to continue his message against Hugo Boss.

Up Next: 8-Year-Old Dies From Internal Bleeding After 40-Year-Old Husband Enjoys Honeymoon
An 8-year-old bride named Rawan died in Yemen recently after suffering internal bleeding, caused by sexual intercourse with her 40-year-old husband. It’s being reported that Rawan died from severe internal bleeding and a tear in her genitals. Forced marriage of child brides is a common practice in Yemen, but activists are passionately requesting this disgusting trend come to an end.
Back in 2009, the age was raised to 17, but reduced it again when lawmakers called the revision “un-Islamic.” The current law states that a bride cannot marry until the parents approve. However, records show that a quarter of Yemen’s young women marry before they’re 15.
Up Next: Indian Woman Burns Her Rapist To Death
A 25-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh in India allegedly doused her 38-year-old rapist, Raju Vishvakarma, in kerosene and lit him on fire, killing him. Raju had been arrested for the alleged rape in April, but was released on bail in May.
According to statements from Raju before his death, the victim invited him over to her house to come to a settlement in her rape case. Upon his arrival, Raju was doused and burned. He was transported to the hospital, where he perished from his burn injuries.
The victim and her family have all been booked on murder charges, despite the outpouring of support for the victim’s violent retaliation.
What’s sad is the rape epidemic in India. Women are being set on fire for refusing sex, the gang-rapes in Mumbai are causing outrage and that’s not even the tip of the iceberg of the devastating routine of abuse in India.

Up Next: Michelle Obama Launches New Campaign
Michelle Obama is so concerned about our health. It’s very endearing. Muva Obama’s current obsession? Water. What about it, you ask? The First Lady wants us drinking more of it. With her first campaign, Let’s Move, FLOTUS got us off our bums and then she told us she was putting out a Hip-Hop album to keep us moving. Now, she wants to monitor what we’re drinking.
FLOTUS urges, “Drink just one more glass of water a day and you can make a real difference for your health, your energy and the way you feel. So ‘drink up’ and see for yourself.” Evidently, the campaign is causing quite the stir. Many critics are saying that drinking water isn’t as important or affective as society tells us it is.
It’s being reported that, “There’s no conclusive scientific evidence that points to the ideal amount of water that people should be consuming, and researchers have largely concluded that the conventional wisdom about needing “eight glasses a day” isn’t actually true. Drinking more water doesn’t actually give you more energy, and it’s only very tenuously linked to weight loss.”
So wait, let me get this straight–Michelle Obama just wants us to be a bit healthier by drinking more water and we’re kicking and screaming over something so simple already? What gives?
