Drake’s New Artwork
No, that isn’t Blue Ivy Carter on the cover of Drake’s forthcoming album “Nothing Was The Same (though Jay Z should seek a paternity test because she and Drake are oddly identical) that my friends, is baby Drake. Drizzy’s “Nothing Was The Same,” visuals has critics slamming the Young Money artist for being unoriginal (hence, the whole “Ready To Die” thing…remember?). In Drake’s defense, or at least in my opinion, his cover is more of a homage to greatness like “Ready To Die,” or “The Carter IV” as well as subtly declaring the album a classic!
Mariah Shuts Down Nick Cannon
Mariah Carey is officially funnier than her comedian husband Nick Cannon! The glitzy diva made an unexpected appearance on Cannon’s “Wild N’ Out” show and “shut sh*t down.” Cannon was in the middle of attempting to “pick up” a cute girl for his Black team skit when Mimi stormed the stage, in a midriff and high heels (not necessarily fighting gear) and snatched the team captain up faster than he could throw to commercial!
Since being dubbed Mr. Mariah, it was cool to see the couple embrace that title and poke fun at it. Cute!
Beyonce Loves Chicken Too
Beyonce once swore to never abandon her roots and remain a loyal chicken lover and that proved true this weekend when the “Grown Woman” allegedly purchased over $2,000 in chicken for her staff at Nando’s in Chelsmford that included 58 wing platters, 48 whole chickens, 12 veggie burgers, 24 coleslaws and 24 rice dishes! “Too excited that Beyonce is ordering a Nandos from us ?? if only she would pick it up herself!,” a restaurant employee tweeted.
J. Cole Reopens Light Skin vs Dark Skin Dialogue
Cue the dreaded light skin, dark skin dialogue that plagues the Black existence. During an interview with BET.com, J. Cole revealed that he thinks he is more successful because he is light skin. Despite rolling my eyes, I agree with some of what Jermaine Cole (Kendrick Lamar voice) said. It is true that Blacks are pre-programmed with self-hatred.
Peep a clip from the interview, below:
BET.com: You’ve talked about including dark-skinned women in your music videos versus all light-skinned women. The light-skinned, dark-skinned issue certainly affects women in hip hop; does it affect men in hip hop?
I can’t say it for sure but I just think we’re still in America. We’re still Black Americans. Those mental chains are still in us. That brainwashing that tells us that light skin is better, it’s subconsciously in us, whether we know it or not… still pursuing light skin women. There are some women out there that are like, “I don’t even like light skin men” and that’s fine. But Barack Obama would not be President if he were dark skin. You know what I mean? That’s just the truth. I might not be as successful as I am now if I was dark skin. I’m not saying that for sure, I’m still as talented as I am and Obama is still as smart as he is, but it’s just a sad truth… I don’t even know if this is going to translate well into text and people not hearing what I’m saying, but it’s a sad reality. So I can only naturally assume it’s probably easier for a light skin male rapper than it might be for a dark skin male rapper. It’s all subconscious s***, nobody’s aware — I think that s*** still subconsciously affects us.
Kevin Hart’s Message To The Haters
Kevin Hart must have been tired of all the hooplah surrounding his new relationship that he responded in great detail about the chicks who are throwing the slander.
“Here’s the reality. You wanna know the sad reality that I say to angry women? If it wasn’t her it [still] wouldn’t be you! That’s the sad part of the reality. So, these people that get angry about another man’s happiness, ask yourself, ‘If he wasn’t with her, would he be with you?’ The answer still is NO! So either way, you’re putting time and energy into somebody else’s happiness.”
“That I don’t like dark-skinned women (laughs). My daughter’s dark-skinned, my ex-wife is dark-skinned….but I get ONE new girlfriend and it’s, “HE HATES SISTAS!!” I wish y’all could see how many times a day I do this (makes crazy face). That’s my face for unwarranted attacks.”
