Remember Laverne from the reality show competition, “I Want To Work For Diddy?” Well, she’s stopped applying to be someone’s assistant and has started dabbling in acting. Laverne has developed/starred in Vh1’s makeover show “TRANSform Me,” and now she’s scenes as Sophia on Netflix’s phenomenal women’s prison comedy-drama “Orange Is The New Black.”
Gawker scored an interview with the on-screen dynamo and she opened up about being trans in Hollywood and being a part of a new hit series.
“A lot of it is just about me wanting to beat myself up because I’m not pretty enough. I’ve had this thing where people are writing all sort of articles, “Laverne Cox has broken the trans glass ceiling.” People are writing all this crazy stuff that I’m this groundbreaking whatever. I have moments where I’m like, I’m not pretty enough or passable enough to be that girl. I’m not pretty enough to really represent the community in this way. Sometimes I sound like a man and all that kind of stuff where I feel like I’m not feminine enough, I’m not enough authentically. Also, I’ve noticed the biggest way that internalized homophobia, racism, or transphobia manifests itself is in how we treat each other.”

Controversial rapper, Kanye West seems to be taking a step towards philanthropic with his latest launch! He’s creating a music writing and production program called “Got Bars” with Donda’s House (an organization named for his late mother) and ARK of St. Sabina (a community center).
What does Kanye want to do for kids? Teach them how to write and record their own music, of course! The “New Slaves” rapper is hoping this will help kids develop problem-solving skills. The participants will also learn other life skills from working out to eating well. Kanye claimed in a statement, “My mom spent her life as an educator and I am happy Donda’s House can pick up the torch and honor her life’s mission.
The 10-week course is open to young adults from 15-24. Applications for “Got Bars” will be accepted until Friday, August 2.
