Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice is the 1st Female President of Morehouse School of Medicine

Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, the Dean and Executive Vice President of the Morehouse School of Medicine is now the first African-American woman to lead a free-standing medical school after she was named the president of Morehouse School of Medicine.

The Harvard-educated obstetrician and gynecologist is a native of Macon, Georgia, which is where she received her undergraduate degree–Georgia Institute of Technology. After attending Harvard Medical School, training at Emory University in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Rice completed her fellowship at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

When you consider the under-representation of black women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, Montgomery’s selection is a remarkable accomplishment.

Orlando Shaw is a real-life Shawty Lo. Oh, Shawty Lo is real? Woops. Shawty Lo has 11 kids with 10 mothers, while Orlando has 22 children with 14 mothers. Well, Mr. Shaw showed up at the Tennessee court in Nashville, explaining to the local news why he can’t pay child support for any of his children. When asked how he found himself in this position, Orlando claimed, “I was young and ambitious and I love women. You can’t knock no man for loving women.”

You may not be able to knock a man for loving women, but you can knock him for not paying for his children! The state of Tennessee currently pays $7,000 per month in child support for the children. Shaw contends that because of a criminal history, he is unable to secure a job. He noted that he does play the lottery in the hopes of winning and being able to provide for his children. Smh!

Juror B29 has stepped out of the shadows for an exclusive interview with “Good Morning America” anchor, Robin Roberts. Unlike Juror B37, she allowed for her face to be seen. As the only juror of color on the controversial George Zimmerman trial, Maddy–as she is being addressed as, is concerned for her safety, but wants her voice to be heard.

And what a voice Maddy has. The shocking admission that Zimmerman “got away with murder.” Maddy continued, “You can’t put the man in jail even though in our hearts we felt he was guilty. But we had to grab our hearts and put it aside and look at the evidence.”

All six of the jurors were women and Maddy, 36, who is Puerto Rican is a nursing assistant and mother of eight children. She was selected as a juror five months after she had moved to Seminole County, Fla., from Chicago.
