MUST READ: A Candid Chat With Mona Scott-Young: ‘I Don’t Believe In Mistakes. I Own Everything That I Do”
I’m woman enough to admit to you that I was one of those judgmental viewers questioning her business tactics. I even stopped watching the first installment of Love & Hip-Hop because of the foolery that always seemed to happen. But after listening to her defend her brands with sincerity, I found a new level of respect for the former music executive.
Here’s five reasons why we love Mona!
“I don’t believe in mistakes. I own everything that I do.” @monascottyoung #shetalks #getinthemyx

1. She owns it!
I adore black women who know who they are and what their purpose is. When Mona spoke, she was clear on her vision and her brand. #Respect
. @monascottyoung says people are far too judgmental of the women on her shows. You have to be responsible for YOU. #getinthemyx #shetalks

2. She checks her haters!
When Mona addressed the backlash from her shows I immediately checked myself. It felt like she was speaking directly to me–and really she was. In my mind, I had charged Mona with the responsibility of representing black women, the way I wanted black women to be seen. When in reality (pun intended), her shows do represent black women. Just not any black women I’m friends with.
“No matter how much they come for me, I’m willing to sand behind my work 100%.” @monascottyoung #getinthemyx #shetalks

3. She’s got mad confidence!
Last night I learned that Mona and I had a lot in common. There’s a certain level of validation that some people seek, I just don’t care about. Especially if it’s something I’ve created that I believe is awesome. We can all thank Mona for our Monday night ratchet TV addiction. And whether you like it, love it, or secretly adore it–she’s behind her brand regardless of what you’re thinking.
“Stay focused in your purpose & don’t allow yourself to be distracted.” @monascottyoung #shetalks #getinthemyx

4. She’s focused and determined!
Mona has quickly positioned herself as a pioneer in this business. Allowing for many others to follow her footsteps and create more programming for people of color.
“I put a camera on a segment of our population. These women exist. I don’t make them up.” @monascottyoung #shetalks #getinthemyx

5. She’s an innovator with the ability to see great things before they are born!
We’d all like to think that Joseline Hernadez is this amazingly ratchet personality that Mona created. But the truth is, when Mona met Joseline (inadvertently through Stevie J’s casting) she was entertained and instantly know that we would be too. The best innovators focus on developing products that deliver memorable and meaningful results.
If Joseline’s beatdown on Stevie J at their therapy session isn’t memorable and meaningful enough for you, I don’t know what to tell you?!
