When I first heard J. Cole’s song “Power Trip” I was drawn into the passion of behind Cole’s lyrics, Miguel’s soulful vocals and the premise of love being so powerful. Those same emotions translated into the visuals for the single off Cole’s upcoming sophomore project “Born Sinner.” Set in Cole’s hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina, “Power Trip” is an intense look at the result of failed love and insanity. Cole’s infatuation with his former lover manifests into the murder of her new man–played by Miguel. The clip is unapologetic and disturbing, but gosh darnnit–that’s what good music is all about!
