It’s super bowl time again folks! Which means, aside from two hours of competitively tossing around the pig skin and a highly anticipated performance by Beyonce, there will plenty of commercial candy to laugh at, debate over and criticize.
This year, companies wasted no time releasing their ads early. Check out these cool spots!
Usher in the Mercedes-Benz 2013 Super Bowl Commercial
What would you do if Willem Dafoe, equipped with devilish nails, offered you a CLA-Class Benz? Run away because he desperately needs a manicure? Lol. Would you seize the opportunity, even it involves selling your soul, like the young man did in the commercial? Well life is about choices and his landed him side by side with Usher!

Volkswagen’s “Get in. Get Happy” Commercial
Volkswagen has drawn a massive amount of attention to their “Get in. Get happy” ad but not all of it is positive. The good thing about marketing is…all publicity is good! Despite there being racial backlash regarding the commercial’s main theme–a white man parading around town with a Jamaican accent, the spot is doing exactly what it was supposed to do. Raise awareness!
The Buggie car company, released this statement:
“The concept of Volkswagen’s ‘Get Happy’ advertisement is to put a smile on your face, and continues to build upon the heritage of ‘human stories, told simply.’ The protagonist in the commercial is intentionally meant to portray an upbeat perspective and intelligence as he influences his coworkers to ‘Get Happy.’ His accent is intended to convey a relaxed, cheerful demeanor while encouraging a positive attitude as the antidote to a tough Monday. Everyone can relate to being in an office and being ground down by the pressures of work and ‘Get Happy’ brings an optimistic, bright spirit into an otherwise.”

Kia’s “Space Babies” Commercial
Littered with a plethora of sexual innuendos like “When the time is just right, there’s a space launch. They wave goodbye, then they board these big shiny rocket ships. They shoot up high in the sky and they fly through space, and they penetrate the atmosphere and then they’re released all over the place,” Kia’s “where do babies come from?” commercial is adorable for so many reasons. With Pandas, babies, puppies and every other cutesy image you can think of, Kia is going to come out on top with this perfectly crafted TV spot!
Grandpa Goes Wild For Taco Bell
Taco Bell is good, but I don’t know if it’s this good! Now that we’ve gotten that out the way, I must say I was very entertained by the Bell’s “Live Mas” visuals. My only gripe I have with the spot is that I had no idea which company it belonged to until the very end…
Are You Team Hyundai?
Two words. Mom’s Face! Yeah there was a little black kid carrying a man out of a burning building and a toddler lifting weights. But what stuck out to me the most was the ill grill mom had plastered on her face! That’s a real mom right there, ready to tackle anyone who messed with her baby!
The Kiss Heard ‘Round The World
GoDaddy.com is known for pushing the boundaries with sultry TV ads featuring scantily clad women, but this time, did the domain name honchos go too far with their Super Bowl ad? Not if you seen anything wrong with a geek tonguing down a blonde hottie…
