YouTube recently ran an audit on some of the music industry’s most viral artists. This ultimately resulted in the lost of some big numbers for a few of our favorite artists including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West. Since I’ve heard that even bloggers buy Twitter and Instagram followers, this is not news to me.

But the term “black hat” is. The term is used when hackers artificially build up the numbers of views or likes on a YouTube video – enabling them to make clips appear far more popular than they really are and increase their exposure on the site.
This might explain those big numbers within minutes of the video’s release. But YouTube isn’t exactly pointing any fingers even though music giant Universal lost over 1 billion views. According to the Daily Mail, the music industry sources have blamed it on housekeeping related to the migration of their videos across different channels. Whatever that means.
