#BlackLivesMatter Protests For Jamar Clark Shuts Down Mall & Airport
Black Lives Matter Protestors Shut Down The Mall Of America And The Minneapolis Airport
For weeks, Black Lives Matter protestors had planned to disrupt holiday shopping at the Mall of America in Minneapolis on behalf of Jamar Clark.
Hundreds of protestors descended on The Mall of America on Wednesday, December 23rd and encountered police officers who forced them to disperse. The protest did achieve it’s initial goal of affecting store sales as Barnes & Nobles, Old Navy and Champs were several of the retailers that closed for several hours while the protestors inundated the mall.
The movement then migrated to the light rail train systems en route to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP). Hundreds of protestors were able to close down the airports two terminals for several hours by congregating in the middle of the road, blocking traffic. The protestors proceeded to storm into the airport where police had to forcibly block people from entering secured areas.
We previously reported that activists are seeking the release of footage that will show the incidents that led up to Clark’s death. The police have said that Clark was shot and killed while interfering with his girlfriend being treated in an ambulance following their domestic dispute. Witnesses have said Clark was shot while he was handcuffed.
A judge gave restraining orders to three known organizers of the protest, Michael McDowell, Miski Noor and Kandace Montgomery. According to RT.com, “…the judge said she could not grant an injunction against Black Lives Matter Minneapolis in general, as they were not a legally recognized entity.”
Check out photos and video from the protests below. Stay tuned for the latest developments.
