You might remember that crazy story of a Ferguson man being charged with destruction of property after he bled on the uniforms of the police officers who beat him. A federal district court tried to block Davis from suing because it ruled his injuries weren’t serious enough and maintained that the cops could be granted immunity for acting within their discretion. However, Davis’ attorney and an appeals court countered that such immunity can’t be granted to acts of “malice” or “bad faith.” Once Michael Brown’s case brought national attention to Ferguson and its police department started being subjected to investigations, the appeals court reversed the lower court’s previous decision on Davis’ charges. Former Baltimore Police Commissioner Gets Caught Lying About Meeting With Family Of Police Brutality Victim

Anthony Batts, the recently terminated police commissioner for Baltimore, has been exposed for fibbing about meeting with the family of Freddie Gray. The family’s attorney, William H. Murphy Jr., sent cease and desist letters to Batts and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake demanding that he stop lying to the public about having connected with the Gray family. Murphy also said that he would be willing to facilitate a meeting between the Gray family and Batts per the family’s request. Batts is defending himself by saying that he had met with someone thinking that he was related to Gray, only to find that he was lied to. Read more at The Root.

Republicans In The Senate Fast-Track Bill To Defund Planned Parenthood

A group of Republicans in the Senate has convened to put together a bill that would strip Planned Parenthood of its government funding. The Senators used a procedure on Tuesday to fast track the bill, getting on the floor for a vote by Monday. GOP members are eager to take away Planned Parenthood’s money after an anti-abortion group accused the family planning organization of illegally selling fetal body parts. However, Democrats are already saying that they won’t offer their support and are referring to the bill as “an attack on women’s health” and “right-wing, crazy deal.” Read more at the Huffington Post.

Mullah Muhammad Omar, the founder and spiritual leader of the Taliban, may have died in a Pakistani hospital back in 2013, according to reports from an Afghani intelligence service. It is unknown how the spy agency obtained this information and it’s long been rumored that Mullah Omar died. Mullah Omar’s son, Yaqoub, has allegedly taken over leadership of the terrorist group. Just hours after being put up, a memorial for Sandra Bland by the Black Lives Matter Coalition of Ottawa was painted over with derogatory terms and the words “all lives matter.” The local community promptly pitched into to restore the memorial about two hours after it was defaced. The group behind the memorial wrote a statement on its Facebook page saying:”[We] will NOT accept this as a reality of our city’s treatment of the importance of Black lives and will continue to take a stance against such racist actions.” Meanwhile, a Texas prosecutor has chosen a committee of attorneys to review the evidence surrounding Sandra Bland’s death.
