Angela Bassett & Audra McDonald To Honor Ruby Dee At Memorial
Ruby Dee is getting a spectacular send off as the A-list gathers to celebrate her life later this month.
The legendary actress, famous for her roles in “Jungle Fever,” “A Raisin in the Sun,” and “American Gangster” left her mark on the world by using her fame and creativity to help fight for civil rights. When she passed away back in June, the loss was deeply felt.
She will be honored September 20 at Riverside Church in New York during a memorial, where Angela Bassett will read her poetry, the Associated Press reports. The crowd will also be treated to some more amazing recitations by Phylicia Rashad, Pauletta Washington, Tyne Daly and Lynn Whitfield during the ceremony.

The honor of delivering Ruby’s eulogy has fallen to her contemporary Harry Belafonte.
As if the memorial wasn’t already epic enough, Alicia Keys and Audra McDonald will be supplying some sweet melody with their own musical tributes. And since Ruby loved Jazz so much, Wynton Marsalis has also been asked to play a tune for her mourners.
Miss Ruby will never be forgotten, and this memorial seems just right for a woman with a legacy like hers!
