Disney star Zendaya Coleman may have snagged the role of Aaliyah in the Lifetime Original TV Movie “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,” but she wasn’t the only celeb who auditioned for the part. This morning, entertainer Teyana Taylor’s friend Tyrone leaked clips of Teyana’s audition tape on Instagram and we can’t front, they weren’t bad. They were actually pretty good (just kinda embarrassing…haunting images of Tyrese’s “Django” tape come to mind).
“I know Teyana is gona be mad at me for posting her audition clips but I honestly feel no one deserves this role more then her,” Tyrone wrote on Instagram. “She embraces Aaliyah dancing , acting and singing. (Which I’ll be posting all 3parts) but unfortunately @teyanataylor heard that Aaliyah’s family isn’t involved & she no longer wanted to be apart of the film. Here’s part 1 The dancing,” he added.
Here’s the second part:
And the third:
Teyana was just one of many women who tried out for the role. “106 & Park” host Keshia Chante, who we thought was a shoo-in for the role, also auditioned.

Keshia Chante
Keshia Chante has pretty much been lobbying for the role of Aaliyah since birth. The singer and host posted this image on her Instagram account.
After scrolling through her Youtube page, we realized that she may have been lacking a key component…she can’t really dance.
Watch her sing “One In A Million” and tell us if you think she could have pulled it off…
Kristal Lyndriette
Singer Tyrese posted an audition video on his Facebook page of his friend Kristal Lyndriette, a Voltron Records Recording Artist, singing Aaliyah’s song “Let Me Know.”
Her vocals clearly sounds like “Baby Girl” (though her speaking voice sounds a bit like Beyonce) and she could’ve easily pulled off her look with a deep part and swoop. What do you think?
Lolita Price
Another Aaliyah doppelgänger, Lolita Price (an upcoming actress) expressed interest in the role. Lolita bares a striking resemblance to the late star and often flexes her Aaliyah faces on Instagram. However, when we perused her Youtube page, we found more product review videos than any that showed her talent. While she may look like Aaliyah, we haven’t found out if she can sing like her…
She posted this message after it was announced that Zendaya snagged the role, “Seeking validation through things that we have no control over leads to a place of dwelling in complete chaos. I have no control over the things that I put my energy toward, meaning their outcome, but I can control whether or not I will smile or cry, laugh or pout, enjoy my moment or curse it. I choose to be happy for the things I have not yet discovered in my craft or about myself. The world does not hold your hand through the journey of self discovery and through my journey up until this point I have made significant strides as a human being. Today has just proven that to me. I am not sad, I am not angry. I am happy for the next thing I get to exert my energy towards. That is what life is about. You get up, dust yourself off, and try again ;-)”
