Zendaya Responds To Critics
Yesterday, it was announced that Disney star Zendaya Coleman was cast as Aaliyah in the Lifetime Original TV Movie “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,” and critics had a lot to say about it. Some fans thought it was great choice while others vehemently disagreed with the pick:
“Not trying to take anything away from Ms. Zendaya But i have only seen her as a Disney star watching with my daughters and only seen her in funny comedic roles. Yes she can sing and dance but this is a role of importance Aalyiah [sic] was an Icon and was taken from us way to soon. Her story should be honored all the way around including who plays her,” one commenter wrote on our site.
“Is there not a another actress that can sing and dance and just look a little bit more like Aaliyah?? plsss look around there must be one,” said another.
Well, Zendaya took to Twitter to respond.
The YBF spoke with casting director Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd, who had this to say about her decision,
Zendaya embodies everything you want in an Actress to play Aaliyah. She is a Poised, Professional, STRONG Actress (studied at California Shakespeare Theater and American Conservatory Theater). A Triple Threat Actor, Singer Dancer. She LOVES AALIYAH and will do a Wonderful Job! She is of mixed ethnicity. Her name is Bantu (Zimbabwe) meaning “To Give Thanks.”
Let’s not Hate on it but Congratulate! She is a GREAT CHOICE!
We weren’t too sure about the cast decision, at first, but after browsing YouTube, we realized that Zendaya wasn’t that bad of a choice. Sure, there were tons of other actresses who could have been chosen (as is the sentiment in Hollywood often) but, we think Zendaya’s ability to do choreography and her vocal chops will carry her through the role.
Filming for “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” begins this summer and the movie will premiere this fall.

Our boy Breezy is getting his life together! After swearing off the negative influences in his life and vowing to focus on his music, the “Loyal” singer sold his condo…you know, the one with the graffiti all over it.
The Hollywood home is in home is in escrow for $1.79 million. According to reports, he also sold a penthouse condo that has been on the market for two years.
Brown’s neighbors are probably jumping for joy. They ab-so-lutely hated Breezy’s paintings that they claimed scared their children. “There are lots of babies, lots of children, and they’re literally frightened,” Hollywood Dell Civic Association president Patti Negri told the Los Angeles Times in 2013. “It’s like devils on the wall – big scary eyes and big scary teeth, and just the whole vibe is not what we’re used to.”
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, once accused the neighbors of harassing Chris. “They’ve called animal control. They have sicced parking [enforcement] on him, and now they reached the heights of ridiculousness here. Shame on them,” Geragos said.
Good for Breezy for getting out of there.

In related Kardashian news, the eldest Kardashian sister, Kourtney, allegedly kicked baby’s daddy Scott Disick to the curb earlier this week after complaining about the debonair reality star’s party habits. Apparently Scott leaves his family to go party too often. According to reports, the couple got into a heated argument. Kourtney did give Scott a shout out on Father’s Day. “Thanks for being a loving daddy more than anything else,” she wrote. Do we sense some shade?

Oop! Did Apollo get the short side of the stick in he and Phaedra’s prenuptial agreement?
Apollo had a lot to say to Todd Tucker on a recent episode of “Kandi’s Wedding” where he gave Todd some manly advice on signing a prenup. Well, it turns out Apollo was so passionate about the subject because he feels he was “blindsided” by he and Phaedra’s prenup.
“It doesn’t matter what Kandi has at the end of the day. So I had a lot to say when it came to the prenup,” Apollo told Michelle from StraightFromTheA. “Make sure you put your foot down… make sure you voice your opinion because, I went into my relationship not really voicing an opinion. I believed that my wife had my best interest at hand 1. being my wife and 2. being an attorney. So I was really nonchalant and I just feel back. So I told him, ‘don’t make the mistake that I made. Not saying that someone was taking advantage of me, but it was a mistake not being proactive and not being hands on and knowing A through Z. You have to know. If you’ve done what I’ve done by not speaking up… you’re going to be blindsided,” he added.
Well duh, Phaedra is going to come out better in that agreement.
