The nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced this morning and none to our surprise, “12 Years A Slave” eclipsed the many other amazing Black films that were released in 2013 (because there can only be one Black film at the Oscars).

“12 Years A Slave” was nominated for: “Best Picture,” “Film Editing,” ‘Costume Design,” Directing,” “Production Design,” “Adapted Screenplay,” “Best Actor,”  Chiwetel Ejiofor for and Lupita Nyong’o “Best Supporting Actress.”

The only other Black film to be nominated was “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” for “Original Song” by Bono. Pharrell was nominated for his song “Happy” off the “Despicable Me” soundtrack.

Chuck Vs. Phaedra

Remember that uncomfortable scene on “The Real Housewives Of Atlanta” in the car when Chuck confronted Phaedra and NeNe Leakes about their conversation with his wife? He instantly became the jack a** heard round the world. In an effort to clean up his image, he told Gossip Extra, “I should have talked about them (Phaedra and Kandi) in a different way. And I should’ve given my wife a little more information about them. It’s just unfortunate I got caught in this situation.”

He added that he hooked up with Kandi because “she was nice” and “her momma cooked good food.” “But we were in a lifestyle of entertainment,” Smith said. “I had four girls in every corner of the stadium.” Then he went off the deep end and said, “Phaedra was just the ugly ducking from the sixth grade,” he said. “It’s unfortunate she got caught up in this.”

Uhm. Not very nice.

Tamera’s Husband Responds To Racists Comments

Tia had to wipe away her twin sister’s tears during an interview on OWN’s “Where Are They Now?” when she opened up about the backlash she’s received for marrying her husband who is White. Tamera is half-white and cried as she thought of all the harsh comments people would make about their relationship.

Her husband Adam Housley, defended his wife, saying;

“Yes, I am white. Yes, she is half-black. Marrying a white man does not erase her color and marrying a woman who is half-black does not mean I am blinded. The problem isn’t pigmentation…the problem is backwards, bigoted thought from people who should know better.”

In other news, Tamera decided to do the big chop. “Love my big chop…love my curl doctor @shaiamiel You did it again 😘,” she wrote on Instagram.

Getting fired from your job can be devastating, especially if your boss is mega celeb like Lady Gaga. Troy Carter dealt with this first hand when he was let go from his position as Gaga’s manager over creative differences a week before his birthday. “It’s like you wake up and you work with somebody every day, and then all of a sudden they’re not there anymore,” he said in a recent interview. “I don’t think you’re ever prepared to sever that deep of a relationship.”

Carter isn’t wallowing in pity, instead he’s warmly welcomed by top execs at Capitol Records in Hollywood and respected by musicians, managers, lawyers, VCs, entrepreneurs, CMOs. Some of his current business ventures include: working with John Legend, his own soda company, Spotify, Uber, Dropbox and Google.
