Ever since the birth of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter North West, Kim K has been, well…different. She isn’t the ubiquitous force we’ve known her to be, thus making her less annoying and humanizing the reality star at the same time. We were genuinely happy for her third engagement and praised her post-pregnancy bod even though she flaunted it on Instagram (which actually made the whole spectacle that much better).

Kim recently sat down with Jay Leno, in her first talking appearance since Kanye popped the question, and it made us appreciate how much she’s matured as a women. While our adulation for Kanye West is in a steady decline, our adoration for Kim is growing.

#6 “Her Big Middle Finger To The World”

Kim Kardashian shut down the Internet when she posted a photo of her curvy post-pregnancy bod in a white bathing suit. The move was what she called “her big middle finger to the world” and that’s why it landed a spot on our list. Kim garnered fame after the leak of her sextape but maintained an image equated with perfection.

Kim shot up to 200 pounds during her pregnancy and the media treated her disgracefully for it. “It really hurt my soul,” she said. “I was trying on a bathing suit and I actually just sent that to my boyfriend and I was like, “Babe, can I post this up? This is like my big middle finger to the world on everyone that called me fat.” Kim said she learned a big lesson from the experience. “It changed how I am in the public a little bit…There were these stories where I was, like, 200 pounds. I was gaining weight because I was pregnant and it was really hard to read all these stories and hear all these nasty things. And I think people sometimes question, they think I’m out ‘in hiding’ now.”

Nice to see her admit flaw and fire back at the haters.

#5 Motherhood Changed Her

When Kim announced that she was pregnant, we sighed in despair. We prayed that we wouldn’t have to give her the Beyonce “baby bump watch” treatment and write about her every waking move. But Kim didn’t go out in public very much nor did she flaunt her pregnancy for the cameras. “I just wanted to kinda adjust my life a little bit because why would I subject myself to so much negativity, especially now that I have a daughter? I just didn’t need that energy, I’d rather be in a happy place at home…I’ve definitely tried to live more of a private life because of that, because they were so nasty. Why even go out as much just to put yourself in that position?”

It looks like Kim is trading in camera time for motherhood.

#4 She Takes Breaks From Contouring The Sh*t Out Of Her Face

Kim Kardashian arrived to her interview with Jay Leno nude…faced (perv) and rocking fuzzy slippers. The new mom clearly doesn’t spend every waking moment dolled up like she is straight off a movie set and we love her for knowing how to be a real girl in private and professional in public. As Drake would say, “Sweatpants, hair-tie/Chilling with no makeup on/That’s when you’re the prettiest/ I hope that you don’t take it wrong.”

#3 She Whipped Her Body Back Into Shape After Packing On 50 Pounds

Kim revealed that she suffered from preeclampsia and gave birth to North five weeks early. “North was born really tiny. She was four and a half pounds.” The condition caused her to gain a lot of weight (that she eventually lost using the Atkins diet). “It’s so ridiculous. I had preeclampsia so I would swell up. It’s this disease you get when you’re pregnant where your liver starts to fail or your kidneys. It’s really dangerous actually so I had to deliver five weeks early. That was the cause for a lot of the swelling. At the time I didn’t know what was going on. It’s honestly the greatest challenge of my life to have gained 50 pounds. Honestly, I got on the scale today and it said I am 50 pounds down so that made me so excited.”

What a big slap in the face to the people who called her a “whale” at her most vulnerable time. Kim is all about show and prove!

#2 She’s Really In Love

Unlike her previous marriage to Kris Humphries, Kim decided to take her fiance’s last name this time around. “I’m probably going to have Kardashian as my middle name and then West…My daughter has the last name West and we’re a family so I want [my last name] to definitely be West.” It’s clear that Kim and Kanye are truly in love. Kanye gushes over their relationship whenever he gets the opportunity. “Family time — it’s what Kim gave me. She gave me a support system,” he said his infamous BBC interview.

#1 She’s Not Selling Her Baby’s Soul For Money

This is one of the only photos we’ve ever seen of North West’s face and that’s because Kim and Kanye treat their family as sacred. Kim told Leno that after North’s birth, she “just wanted time with her and to be with her. This was the one time in life where I could just take off and spend time with me and him and the baby. We both took a maternity leave.” Kudos to Kim for putting her family first.

We admire how she’s settled down and transformed her salacious image into one her daughter can respect. She’s growing into the woman we all hoped she’d be.
