So, honorary Gladiators, what did you think about the latest episode of “Scandal?”
Last night’s show wasn’t as intense as the last few, but I guess Shonda Rhimes decided to let our hearts rest a little bit this week. After all, I can’t have my blood pressure that high every Thursday evening! Now that Olivia Pope was fresh out of a ‘Scandal’ herself, the folks over at Pope & Associates were experiencing a big decline in business. The Gladiators were broke and in desperate need of a new clients. Lucky for them, a sexting addict senator found himself in the middle of a cheating scandal which ended with the murder of one of his mistresses. When the Senator and his wife approached Olivia, they were optimistic about winning the case. Yes, he was a cheating husband but in no way was he a murderer. They trusted that Olivia would swoop down in her white hat and save the day, as she’s done in the past.
Meanwhile, Huck was still trying to recover from the mind control Eli Pope had him under when he forced him to kill what he thought was an innocent man on last week’s episode. But the real tea was that the man Eli Pope had Huck murder wasn’t just a random, but actually had ties to the government and more specifically, President Grant. Scandalous!
In case you weren’t taking notes or following our #ScandalParty on Twitter (@HelloBeautiful), here are a few things to remember for next week’s episode.
1. Does Everyone Deserve A Second Chance?
Olivia Pope is the queen of second chances (her relationship with President Grant, her relationship with Jake, her friendship with Cyrus, her whole Gladiator team and the list goes on and on) and therefore believes that everyone deserves one. So, when the senator and his wife, Shelly Myers, stepped into her office begging for her help, she was more than willing to lend a helping hand. The senator admitted to his wife and everyone in the room that he had a problem. The only problem (aside from the fact that he was a cheater and addicted to sexting) was that one of his “mistresses” was found dead and he was the main suspect in the murder.
During the murder trial, Shelly was shocked to find out that the murdered woman wasn’t the only mistress that her husband was sending dirty text messages to, but that he had a whole gang of young ladies that he would sext in the most asinine way! (Because let’s face it, receiving a text from a man saying, “I wanna shave you”, isn’t the least bit sexy in any way). After a long trial and Olivia basically slut shaming the murdered victim, it was clear that the senator wasn’t the only “suitor” involved in the young ladies’ life, but that she had a couple of “sugar daddies” helping foot the bill for some of her biggest expenses. At that moment, Liv knew that Shelly was fed up and figured that she could use her anger in her favor. She prompted Shelly to go on the stand and tell the truth and explain how she hated her husband, wanted a divorce and that he was a lying and cheating pig but in no way was he a murderer and for that reason shouldn’t go to jail. Once again, Liv’s tactics worked and the senator was found not guilty for the murder of the 24-year-old girl.
Once a verdict was reached, a light bulb went off in Liv’s head. She realized that the senator wasn’t the one guilty of murder, it was Shelly, the Senator’s wife! She followed her husband over to his mistresses’ house, waited until he was gone and proceeded to murder her, not realizing that the Senator had multiple mistresses instead of just one! Shelly’s response when Liv confronted her with the news? “Everyone deserves a second chance, right Liv?” Ah, and the plot thickens!
2. Eli Pope Has Mind Control Over Liv, Too!
Not only did Eli Pope have mind control over Huck, but over Jake and Olivia also! Since Jake was still shacking up at Liv’s place and had no idea why he was still alive, he and Liv were worried that Eli would try and come after him, again. Jake made it clear that Liv’s father was no Saint and that he would take out his own daughter if he had to. Jake was determined to stop Liv’s father a.k.a Command before he got to him first and wanted Liv’s help but Liv wanted no parts. No matter how evil the man was, he was still her father and she still wanted so desperately to be “daddy’s little girl” even if it was all for show.

Liv told Jake to leave her apartment and stay out of her life if he was going to have anything to do with her father and his downfall. You and I both know that it’s impossible for Liv to stay away from Jake, and Jake knew it too because he continued to do his research on Eli Pope and returned to Liv forcing her to listen to all of the tea he gathered!
3. Fitz, Eli Pope & Operation Remington
The back story of “Operation Remington” and “B613” has been building since the season first started and now it seems as if we’re finally getting somewhere. Remember the “innocent” man that Eli Pope left for Huck to murder on last week’s episode? Turns out he wasn’t so innocent after all. His murder was made out to look like a suicide and only Huck knew the truth. He was buried in the White House’s cemetery amongst other American heroes and when President Grant showed up to his funeral, everyone was slightly confused. How was this man considered an American hero? Jake and Huck knew something was up, but what? It wasn’t until Jake took matters into his own hands, eaves dropped on Eli Pope and Cyrus’ conversation and came to Liv’s office with the information he just found. He figured out that that the man that Huck murdered was an officer on a secret flight that was piloted by President Grant but was somehow missing from his flight records. He also had a tattoo of the flight number on his body that made it look as if he were the pilot of the plane with it was really President Grant. Liv wanted nothing to do with the information that Jake just found, but Huck did.
After Jake left Liv’s office, he and Huck met face to face. They were both under Command’s mind control and decided to join forces to take him down and protect Liv. Liv didn’t realize how serious these two were until they showed up at her apartment door, together! What could they possibly be getting ready to discuss with her!?
Meanwhile, President Grant was on a mission of his own. At the end of the episode, he and his secret service agents stormed into Eli Pope’s office. It was then clear that these two were in cahoots with each other all along. Fitz’s only words to Papa Pope before the closing credits were, “we need to talk!”
Things. Just. Got. Real!
