Ellen Pompeo Thought The Emmys Were Racist
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Ellen Pompeo Thought The Emmys Were ‘Racist’ & Needed More Shonda Rhimes
Like most of us who tuned in on Sunday night, Ellen Pompeo agreed that the Emmys were weird–and that and they were kind of racist. Most of us noticed that blatant absence of diversity, save Sofia Vergara’s entire family, but Pompeo (whose husband is Black) was appalled at the shows ubiquitous whiteness. She told the AP:
“I didn’t see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me…that dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?” The star of Grey’s Anatomy went on, “I’m extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day.”
It’s nice to know that the folks on Black Twitter weren’t the only ones who noticed how boring, weird and void of color the Emmys were. We’re also betting Pompeo is totally partial to Shonda Rhimes and was more bummed than Columbus Short that Kerry Washington didn’t win.
