Darker, taller and bigger. The prosecution’s star witness, last person to speak to Trayvon Martin, Rachel Jeantel is not who I expected at all. But, Jeantel delivered the most intense, compelling and moving testimony of the Trayvon Martin case thus far. The 19-year-old, soft-spoken but sassy teen stood tall and strong by her story. Though the defense tried everything in their might to discredit her as a witness, the lies in her story made her account more powerful, because after all, lying is real.

The night Trayvon Martin died, February 26th, in Florida, he was on the phone with Rachel Jeantel–connected by his bluetooth.

Jeantel said Martin walked to the local 7-Eleven to grab some snacks. When he left, Trayvon told her that “a man was watching him… He kept complaining the man was watching him,” she revealed. She told him to run and he said he was going to try to lose him. After waiting for the rain to subside at the mailing station, he attempted to run Home. Their phone disconnected, but he called her right back. He sounded tired, she said before he exclaimed “Oh sh*t. The n**ga is behind me.” Jeantel heard Trayvon ask Zimmerman “Why are you following me?” Soon after, she heard a bump, then the sound of “wet grass” as if someone was rolling around.

Jeantel claims she and Martin were just friends, though it is speculated that they were secretly involved. Rachel remained stern that they were acquaintances because there was another “young lady” in the picture.

MUST READ: Who Is Rachel Jeantel?

Despite the defense’s relentless badgering, they were not able to counter her statements about her phone call with Trayvon. Jeantel’s attitude, though offensive to some, is intriguing and off-putting to the defense. Her unworldliness boosts her credibility because no one believed she was clever enough to drum up a false story.

Jeantel took to the stand for over five hours. Every minute of it entertaining! We’ve compiled her best quotes, including the greatest moment in court history when she became the modern-day Django, recalling that Trayvon called Zimmerman a “creepy a** cracker!”

Let’s countdown her best quotes (and faces):

10. “There were more conversations than this”

Rachel displayed signs of attitude when she first sat down to be interrogated by Zimmerman’s legal team. Mr. West, Zimmerman’s lawyer, presented her with a set of phone records, but didn’t give it to her in its entirety. She noted quickly that some were missing and called West out for it!

9. “I don’t watch the news”

At first it seemed unbelievable that Rachel claimed she didn’t watch the news. But, she is only a 19-year-old girl who clearly isn’t into politics of topics of the land. Zimmerman’s defense team worked to try to get her to confess otherwise, but were unable to penetrate her statements because there is no altering the truth! She admitted she only watches the news for the weather, which is common for a girl her age.

8. There’s another young lady…

It was revealed that Trayvon had a girlfriend. But, the defense quickly noted that he and Rachel texted each other too often for their relationship just to be platonic. We speculate that Rachel was Trayvon’s side boo. Oh what comes out in trial!

7. “You ain’t get that from me!”

Zimmerman’s attorney Mr. West attempted to trip up Rachel by insisting Trayvon attacked Zimmerman. Rachel may not be well spoken, but she isn’t dumb! She responded clearly “You ain’t get that from me!” West and the rest of court were wowed by her blunt statement.

6. “Are you listening?”

After being questioned over and over about the same topic, Jeantel repeated herself once more only for her response to be followed by the same question in a different form. “Are you listening?” she asked Zimmeran’s attorney Mr. West. Mr. West, so shocked, did not answer. Taken aback, he took a moment to gather his thoughts.

5. “What is you talking ’bout?”

Once again, Mr. West, on a mission to discredit Rachel, repeatedly used the same line of questions to throw arachel off and eventuslly insinuate that she lied under oath. Rachel’s clear cut response: “What is you talking ’bout?”

4. “You can go”

Mr.West finally got to what he was talking about and it involved the impeachment of one of her statements. After proving his irrelevant point, Rachel responded in a sassy manner “You can go!” West was confused and appeared flustered. Just in case he didn’t hear it, which happened often, she repeated it twice more so everyone could understand.

3. “Don’t you watch ‘The First 48’, they call you”

Well this is a fair question, everyone watches “The First 48.”

2. “Creepy a** cracker”

(Caption added to photo)

During her testimony, Rachel was brutally honest, including what Trayvon said to her in his last moments. Martin’s description of the man who was followibg him was “creepy White cracker.” Due to her low speaking voice, she was asked to repeat her response several times. The look on everyone’s face forever goes down in history as a meme for Instagram generations to come! Rachel became a hero to every Black person at that very moment!

1. Her testimony

Zimmerman’s defense team attempted to portray Rachel as a liar and poke holes in her account with Trayvon, but they have (so far)been unsuccessful. Her emotional testimony included key details in the trial, including who may have attacked who. The last words Rachel heard, from who she thinks was Trayvon, were “Get off.” Then she admits she heard wet grass as if someone was fighting.

In anticipation of the defense question why Rachel didn’t go to the Trayvon’s wake, she said “You gotta understand,” she told West. “I’m the last person — you don’t know how I felt. You think I really want to go see the body after I just talked to him?” Rachel certainly connected dots that would have gone unmentioned if she wasn’t on the phone or on the stand. Rachel’s account paints Zimmerman as the aggressor even though Martin asked Zimmerman “what are you following me for?”

We are upon the 14th day of the Trayvon Martin trial and in my opinion, the prosecution has done a good job at making Zimmerman out to have been the aggressor. Multiple sources has testified that they saw George Zimmerman ontop on Martin. The defense wants us to believe it was Martin who ground and pounded Zimmerman. The screams for “help” heard over the phone calls to the police are now appearing to have belonged to Martin.

We will keep you updated as the cases progresses. It may take up to four weeks. Stay tuned!
