Let’s face it. Our phones have taken over our lives! Everywhere you go, you see heads bowed in mock prayer, as they slide their fingers over the glossy screen. Instead of becoming distracted by the brilliant lights that glow from our many screens, we should use technology’s powers for good.
Must Read: The Most Expensive iPad…Ever
Between the iPhone, Android, iPad, Google Tablets and countless others, there’s all kinds of apps that have been created to make your lives easier. Yes, there’s more to the app store than the latest Angry Birds. There’s apps out here that solve fights between you and your lover, teaches the birds and the bees to your lover and even organizes all of the hectic moving pieces in your life.
We’ve done some work for you and gathered the top five apps that will change your tech life! Check them out below!
Good Fight
Created by clinical psychologist Dr. Les Parrott and his wife, marriage and family therapist Dr. Leslie Parrott (#1 NYT bestselling authors of “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts”), Good Fight helps busy couples learn how to resolve conflicts without therapy. Using proven tools and years of psychological research, the app increases intimacy and improves communication between lovers.
Inside your app, which is linked to your partner’s account, you share intimate info that helps you get to the core of why you’re fighting, open up about your thoughts in a safe environment, and dismantle fights—all from the convenience of your phone. The app is free with their book, “The Good Fight: How Conflict Can Bring You Closer,” but can be purchased for $12.
Birdees
This app will make bashful parents very happy. It will tackle all those tough questions your precocious kid has about the birds and the bees. Yes–sex. So the next time your adorable kid approaches you with the loaded question, “Where do babies come from?” This new iPad app provides parents with a fun and painless way to get through these questions. Complete with colorful graphic to appeal to kids and text that guides parents to click through the “tree of knowledge,” while building a virtual foundation of opening up the conversation of sex and its consequences.
The branches on the tree of knowledge cover: conversations, body parts and functions, boundaries, sexuality, relationships, pregnancy and reproduction, condoms, HIV/AIDS, menstruation and much more. Special emphasis has been placed on age appropriate education on the social issues that often cannot be found in existing curricula.
Free with an option to upgrade to the premium app for $12.99
Designed specifically for the iPad & iPad Mini.
Available for download at the Apple iTunes Store
Venmo
Venmo is a social payment app and service that makes it fun and easy to pay friends on the go. Venmo works via SMS messages, mobile iPhone and Android apps, or the Web. Users can leave notes and comments, push their payments to Venmo’s social network and/or to Twitter, foursquare and Facebook.
While I find it a bit weird that your friends on social media are aware of the transactions between you and your friends, I love that Venmo makes it easy to pay your friends. Out to dinner and they take cash only? Allow your friend who always carries cash to pay, but before you make it back home, you can make sure that there’s no debts between you and your friend.
Swoon
Swoon is a new free dating app that allows users to connect with cool people close to them, literally. This is the first app of its kind to be available to both Android and iPhone users! Swoon is smart and anonymous, suggesting people you can secretly like or skip. When you both like each other, Swoon lets you message each other in the app—what happens next is up to you. You can use the app to view profiles and like the ones that are of interest to you and skip the ones you don’t like. You can see people who match your interest and find out more about what you both like. You can then connect and chat within the app and find the love of your life or at least a really good friend.
New York City is getting an up close and personal look at Swoon next week. The launch event will gather a room of 20-somethings who are looking to meet new people. Guests will get a chance to hang out with men of Swoon and dating experts.
Clear
Life is messy. Keep it together with Clear, an amazing new app for list-keeping that is unbelievably simple, quick and satisfying to use. There’s nothing like checking items from your to do list, well Clear helps you to…clear these items.
For just $1.99, you’re able to tackle your personal todo list, shopping list, make quick notes list for phone numbers and things, list the movies to watch, or books to read, make a guest list for that party and even make a bucket list for those big life goals.
