New Study Shows Abortion Rates Four Times Higher Among Black Teens

African-American teenagers have four times the number of abortions compared to Hispanic and White teens, according to the results of a new study.

The Guttmacher Institute revealed that 41 per 1000 Black teens between the ages of 15-19 have undergone an abortion procedure, while the Hispanic rate is 20 per 1,000 and the White rate is 10 per 1,000 — twice has high as the national average.

A state-by-state study also reveled that a baby is most likely to be terminated by a mother of African-American decent that it does in any other racial group. For example, in the state of New York, 67 percent of black teenage pregnancies end with an abortion.

The research also states that Blacks only make up 13 percent of the population, but 30 percent of all abortions.

These staggering numbers have caused many people to wonder why the rates are so high in the Black community, however Rachel Jones, a senior research associate at the Guttmacher Institute, says there’s no definite answer to that question.

“There’s no definitive research that’s actually been able to answer that question,” she said. “We just do know that African-American women, including African-American teenagers, just have more pregnancies.”
