March 8th is International Women’s Day and as a woman, today is our day to feel proud of how far we’ve come since the day’s first celebration in 1911. Today, we celebrate. We celebrate women like Michelle Obama–who focuses her time and energy on cultivating the importance of a healthy lifestyle, or women like Oprah–who’s naturally a philanthropist, but still finds the time to become one of the top women in business for over a decade or even little women like Quvenzhane Wallis–who defied multiple odds and found herself at the 2013 Oscars as a nominee at the age of 9. Women all over the world like these prove that life can be as limitless as we allow it to be and it was the women who came before us that paved the way.

Celebrate this day by initiating conversations on women’s rights, empowerment and worth with your friends, family and coworkers. If you write, write a blog. If you don’t, comment on one that covers the topic. You could also volunteer your time to mentor a young girl who is in need of guidance and support.

While Women’s Day celebrates the advancements that women have made throughout history, the day is still a reminder that the fight continues as we still strive towards equality. How are you celebrating International Women’s Day? Tell us your plans in the comments below!
